"Come Hell
or High Water!"
The History of the Siskiyou Pub
- Ashland, Oregon
From a laundry company in the 1920s to a Micro-Pub in
1997, the concrete building on Water Street has a
diverse history. In 1988 the Rogue Brewery & Public
House brewed its
first Shakespeare Stout, which started
it on the way to national recognition. The brewery
was
hit by a severe flood New Year’s 1996 when Ashland creek
rose
an estimated eight to twelve feet. After the
devastation, the brewery was rebuilt to become a
multi-tap micro-pub and restaurant. In June of that
year, during the remodel, the pub suffered a setback
when flames swept through the upstairs business. The
pub was christened “Hell or High-water” by local
residents, and the motto stuck. July 4, 1997 the
Siskiyou Pub opened, and each year there is an
anniversary celebration.
The high water mark can be seen inside the pub, left of
the ramp door. Just outside the door stands the grain
silo symbolizing the pub’s brewing history.
We carry several locally brewed beers. Caldera Brewing
Co. of Ashland, Walk-About Brewing Co. brewed in the
outback of Central Point, and Rogue Ales of Newport.
